  • evaluate sources for credibility and authority
  • incorporate their research into their assignment
  • cite their research properly
  • avoid plagiarism
  • find important library resources in the discipline

Benefits of Library Instruction

DACC Library helps create Information Literate students who can find, evaluate, and utilize information ethically and effectively via our multi-faceted library instruction program. During a three-year assessment of library instruction at 200 colleges and universities entitled Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success (AiA) the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) found powerful evidence of the contributions academic libraries make to student learning in four key areas:

  • Students benefit from library instruction in their initial coursework.
  • Library use increases student success (e.g., GPA, course grades, retention).
  • Collaborative academic programs and services involving the library enhance student learning.
  • Information literacy instruction strengthens general education outcomes.
