BIOLOGY

Welcome

Welcome to the DACC Library research guide for Biology. The tabs on the left side of the screen will take you to a variety of resources available at the library.

Research guides are tools created by librarians to help students find valid, reliable, and credible information for their college coursework or any information need. They are intended to give a broad overview of a subject or skill, and guide you to a DACC Librarian when you need additional help, or just some tips on how to get started.

You can start a chat with a Librarian directly from the library website, or text, email, call or come in to a DACC Library location. Or make an appointment with a librarian online or in-person. Use the links in the Ask Us! box immediately below to get started.

Principles of Biology

Designed to provide students and researchers with a solid foundation to the study of biology, this volume introduces readers to hundreds of important terms and concepts. The volume begins with a detailed introduction of the field of biology. Written in clear, understandable language, entries include a complete discussion of the subject, related fields, key terms, plus illustrations, models and diagrams.

Lessons in Environmental Microbiology

Lessons in Environmental Microbiology provides an understanding of the microbial processes used in the environmental engineering and science fields. It examines both basic theory as well as the latest advancements in practical applications, including nutrient removal and recovery, methanogenesis, suspended growth bioreactors, and more. The information is presented in a very user-friendly manner; it is not assumed that readers are already experts in the field. It also offers a brief history of how microbiology relates to sanitary practice, and examines the lessons learned from the great epidemics of the past. Numerous worked example problems are presented in every chapter.

DNA Forensics

This book reveals amazing examples of what has and is happening with science and DNA forensics. The public now knows the DNA molecule by sight and how it can assist in solving crimes such as murder and sexual assaults. In this book, the authors demonstrate how DNA forensics has developed over the years. DNA has assisted in finding criminals and releasing those who were wrongly accused, including prisoners on death row and a few who were already executed!
