September 15 to October 15 is the annual celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month! This month celebrates and honors the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to U.S. society and culture!
In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation designating the week including September 15 and 16 as National Hispanic Heritage Week. Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan all issued similar proclamations during their presidencies as well. In 1988, President Reagan expanded the week into National Hispanic Heritage Month, and in 1989, President George H.W. Bush issued the first proclamation designating September 15 through October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Lastly, through a 2014 Presidential Proclamation under President Barack Obama.
